US State and Treasury Departments Jointly Impose Sanctions on Russia
New Sanctions Implemented
On November 16, 2023, the US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on 6 entities and 8 individualsunder Western Balkans and Russia-related Executive Orders.
In a coordinated action, the US Department of State imposed sanctions on 12 entities and 2 individualspursuant to Russia-related Executive Order.
The US Department of Treasury also imposed sanctions on 3 maritime companies and 3 tankers for carrying Russian crude oil. above the Coalition-agreed price cap.
Balkans-related Listed Individuals
Individuals sanctioned for perpetuating corruption and enabling Russian malign influences in the Balkans include officials such as Savo Cvijetinovic, Petar Djokic, and Dusko Perovic from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The list also includes Miodrag “Daka” Davidovic and Branislav “Brano” Micunovic from Montenegro for their involvement in crime, as well as Sergey Samsonenko from North Macedonia.
Russia-related Listed Individuals
The list includes Misa Vacic, the President of the Serbian Right Party, and Nenad Popovic, who served as Serbian Minister from 2017 to 2022 and was founder of the nationalist Serbian Peoples Party.
Popovic controls a vast network of Russia-based subsidiaries dealing in real estate, engineering, and electronics. Consequently, the US is sanctioning 12 of his Russia-based business networks.
Vessels Transporting Russian Oil
The price cap on crude oil came into effect in December 2022 with a cap on Russian crude oil at $60 per barrel.
The US sanctions target vessels such as Ligovsky Prospect, Kazan, and NS Century, which are involved in the exportation of Russian crude oil priced above the imposed cap.
UAE-based Kazan Shipping Incorporated, Progress Shipping Company Limited, and Gallion Navigation Incorporated are also sanctioned as the registered owners of the listed vessels.
