According to the Government of Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a visit to Kyiv on June 10, 2023.
During his visit, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Canada's unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia's brutal invasion and the unacceptable targeting of civilians.
The Prime Minister delivered a speech to Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, and paid a visit to the Lisova Poliana Veterans Mental Health Rehabilitation Center to meet with soldiers.
Canada's Support for Ukraine
According to the Government of Canada, the Prime Minister announced additional measures and investments in support of Ukraine, including $500 million in new funding for military assistance.
Operation UNIFIER will be extended until 2026, providing the Canadian Armed Forces with significant resources to address Ukraine's urgent training needs.
Canada's contributions encompass collaborative efforts such as training pilots, maintaining and supporting Ukraine's F-16s, and assisting with the Leopard 2 tank maintenance centre in Poland.
Sanctions and Humanitarian Assistance
Canada has implemented additional sanctions, reinforcing its ongoing work to seize assets from individuals responsible for, and profiting from, Russia's acts of aggression.
Canada swiftly responds to the breach of the Nova Kakhovka dam by allocating $10 million in new funding for immediate relief, redirecting $37.5 million in existing funds, and pledging further resources for post-flood reconstruction.
Canada's investments today build on its previous commitment of over $8 billion in financial, military, humanitarian, development, and immigration assistance to Ukraine.
Ukraine and Canada Joint Declaration
According to the Government of Canada, at their meeting in Kyiv, the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Canada adopted a joint declaration.
The 13-point joint declaration strongly condemns Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, calling for the immediate withdrawal of Russian military forces from Ukrainian territory.
